In Loving Memory Of Sandy Hook Elementary Victims

Twas' 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38

when 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven's gate.

Their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air.

They could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there.

They were filled with such joy; they didn't know what to say.

They remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day.

“where are we?" asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse.

“This is heaven" declared a small boy.

"We’re spending Christmas at God's house”.

When what to their wondering eyes did appear,

but Jesus, their savior, the children gathered near.

He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same.

Then He opened His arms and He called them by name.

And in that moment was joy, that only heaven can bring

those children all flew into the arms of their King

and as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace,

one small girl turned and looked at Jesus' face.

And as if He could read all the questions she had

He gently whispered to her, "I'll take care of mom and dad. “

then He looked down on earth, the world far below

He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe,

then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand,

“Let My power and presence re-enter this land! “

May this country be delivered from the hands of fools”

“I’m taking back my nation. I'm taking back my schools! “

Then He and the children stood up without a sound.

“Come now my children let me show you around.

“Excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran.

All displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can.

And I heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight,

“in the midst of this darkness,” I AM STILL THE LIGHT

3/27/12 - Mayor's attitude drives away good officers

read letter from day.com

Who does this mayor think he is. Come on, "Crack some skulls?" Is this what he thinks of his police department? I can assure you that there is not one police officer that goes out on his or her shift with the intention of "cracking skulls." These are hard working cops that go out every day with the intent of doing the best that they can, even with all of the turmoil created by this administration, they still do their jobs. There were never any problems of this magnitude with other administrators at New London Police Department.

Officer Todd Lynch is a fine police officer who wants nothing more than a fair deal for all.

Mayor Finizio, what are you thinking by saying that officers can leave anytime they want; that's exactly what they are doing. They can see what's going on and don't want to be a part of it. Keep forcing officers out, then, "Who you gonna call" - Crimebusters - when there are no more police officers?

3/25/12 - Mayor Finizio owes NL police apology

New London Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio owes New London's police officers an apology. When he suggested officers were "cracking skulls," he insulted all current and former police officers who have risked their own physical well being to protect New London neighborhoods.

I submit that the mayor has no idea what cops on the street do. Yes Mr. Mayor, sometimes the job gets physical, and officers must respond accordingly. I am calling you out on your claim to be qualified to reorganize, and apparently run, a police department. Asserting that you are qualified because you worked as an entry level analyst in the New York mayor's office, were the Westerly Town Council police liaison, and spent less time in a courtroom than many beat cops while an attorney is comical and arrogant.

I agree that community policing is the way to go. It was the predominate theme under former Chief Bruce Rinehart, and NLPD needs to get back to it. That doesn't mean that police officers shouldn't confront and arrest law breakers; or be afraid to use force to protect themselves or the community, when legal and appropriate.

Police chiefs in Connecticut were given statutory protections to prevent political interference. That has been turned upside down in New London.

Ken Edwards Jr.
