In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Finizio proposed the use of capital funds to finance public safety measures such as increased lighting, surveillance cameras, and anti-loitering signs.
maybe that lamp post will protect us! stop in the name of the law!
Should the city actually layoff these excellent and dedicated officers who put their lives on the line each day protecting New London and its citizens, than the city shall endure the consequences of these actions.

The International CIT Conference
coming to Connecticut!
(October 14 -16)

Over 1,200 police officers, mental health professionals, and advocates are expected to attend. We are going to be looking for volunteers to help with the event.

There are now 42 Connecticut Police Agencies with CIT Teams, and thousands worldwide including Canada, England, Australia and several European countries.

New London PD was the 10th program in the country, and the first one in the northeast.

At the time NLPD is the smallest department to participate in Crisis Intervention Teams.

Raymond "Cit" Ouellet Park, Old Canterbury Tpke, Norwich


Alex and Cole DeMond were injured when a drunk driver hit their car in a four-car crash on Interstate 395 in Montville. Their father- Ben DeMond- a Norwich firefighter was killed in the accident. Six year old Alex and 4-year-old Cole were hospitalized after the accident. Cole was released a few days later, after several surgeries.
